We Are the Strong Ones!

Hello, I am Glenda and I live in a city in southern Alberta, Canada. I grew up and worked in the Vancouver, BC area. I worked as a transit operator, retiring after 38 years. I also enjoyed having my own business as a Registered Professional Counselor and coach. For fun, I travel with my truck and camper, kayak and electric gravel bike and like discovering new areas to play in.  Then suddenly all that came to a halt.

I had taken a part-time job driving a luxury day tour bus. A life-changing incident happened when a 50 lb hard-shell suitcase struck me in the face from 7 feet above knocking me back with a concussion. Following that, more tumbling suitcases hit my back and shoulder. A tendon was torn from my bicep. My bus driving had abruptly come to an end.

About We Are the Strong Ones!

One of the areas of life I reflected on during my two weeks in the semi-dark because of the concussion, was my choices. I could spend my time feeling sorry for myself or plan my transformation. I chose the latter.

“Argue Your Limitations” has been etched on my watch band ROAD ID for years. I had that done to motivate me to kick butt on long cycling trips. The ROAD ID message reminded me to conserve energy by maintaining rhythm while paddling in my kayak in a chaos of wind and waves, ensuring I was prepared for any sudden burst of intensity!

After my debilitating accident, I became astutely aware of how the emotional turmoil resulting from my injuries and the significant disruption they caused, had set me back. I needed some help to get going again.

The accident was almost two years ago and the healing is not complete. But most of me has bounced back! I immersed myself in the HeartMath Institute programs and I upgraded my skills to be a Certified HeartMath Mentor.I now workout gently in my home gym six days a week and some days shoulder mobility can be a challenge. I am no longer forcing myself to "push through the pain." It doesn't work, but being in touch with my body's energy does work.

The Goal

Learn to Argue Your Limitations.
One time in my search to fix things in my life, I had the pleasure of being with Mary Manin Morrissey. She reminded me about the story of Adam and Eve and the Garden of Eden. She said I seemed to be eating a lot of meals from the toxic fruit tree of the knowledge of good and evil and bypassing the Garden. She told me that eating from that tree had reinforced my habit of thinking with blame and fear most of the time, which in turn was diminishing me and was adding more thoughts of fear and blame. She taught me to stop mid-bite while I was munching away on the fruit, and ask myself “What actually happened? What story am I telling myself? What really is true for me right now?”

When I think back, it was one of the first ways I learned to Argue My Limitations. Mary didn’t call it that, but I do, and through self-observation and questions, I can use this technique to facilitate the shattering of imaginary limitations that I may have adopted.

When There’s a Will, There’s a Way

This blog is a gift to whoever wants to make an effort to recognize that the crap in our lives doesn’t have to be the only thing operating.
“Emotional energy is not positive or negative; it’s neutral —like a car idling. You can press the gas pedal and drive to work responsibly or you can press the gas pedal and drive a hundred miles an hour into a concrete wall. The car represents a neutral power that you can use or abuse. Emotional energy is like that.”
--From my early HeartMath training: HeartMath Discovery Program. Page 62.

I am putting together some stuff that worked for me after I peeled myself off the concrete wall.
Seeking alternatives to the brick wall, I began to make adjustments in my steering and they were little ones to start. Some only I would notice, but it was enough to build on. I knew how to operate my inner vehicle; I had to undertake my passage trusting my skills could be fine tuned for a more joyful ride in my life!
If you can relate and are thinking about your life, you have begun. It’s okay, awareness just lets you know where you are right now.

I’ll be talking about how to align the power of our thoughts with the incredible strength and intuition of heart energy. I love to play with different exercise programs and products so I will share that as well.
